The Man in Black (lyrics, etc)

The Man in Black (is back) was born during episode 115 as part of Tim’s “Creativity Now” idea.

Brady provided first verse lyrics while Tim sang and “jammed” the music.

The song was inspired by Tim’s lonely nights recording podcasts on dark, rainy Adelaide nights.

The Man in Black, The Man in Black is back
The Man in Black, The Man in Black and a black cap
It’s Monday night, another hard night at the pod mic
It’s Monday night, a lonely man and a street light

The gauntlet was thrown down for civilians to finish the job - and by episode 116 we had some great submissions.

Finn and Kai’a produced a fantastic track (hear it discussed more on episode 116). Brady has also produced a music video for this version!

The man in black
The man in black is back
The man in black
The man in black and a black cap

It's Monday night
Another hard night at the pod mic
It's Monday night
A lonely man and a streetlight

Sinner Sinner
Chicken Dinner
He's a man
A man in black
You promised us spoons but all we've got is moons
And he's back, the man is back

The man in black
The man in black has a KFC Snack
He gave into his cravings
But the man in black
The man in black's gonna bounce back

The man looks up
The moonlight bright on the altar
The moon is full
The road is long but the man in black never falters

Sinner Sinner
Chicken Dinner
He's a man, that much we know
One hundred Podcasts in
The ideas are running thin
And he's in black
Always in black

(The man, he's back. The man, yeah he's in black)
The man slowly turns, staring across the graveyard
He adjusts his obsidian cap, to obscure his eyes
And withdraws from his pocket, a golden spoon

The man in black is back

Next, supergroup The Scoopy Bits blew us away with this one.

The man in black, The man in black is back
The man in black, The man in black and a black cap
It’s Monday night, lonely night at the pod mic
It’s Monday night, a lonely man and a street light

Pour an iced coffee it’s about to get real
It’s been 9 months since his last KFC meal

Lock your kitchen drawers
Call Tommyball headquarters
Da Hein Hond’s back and he’s got nothing to lose
Busted out of prison
Man who’s on a mission
He’s creepin’ out to steal your souvenir spoons

The man in black yeah he is back
Hide your spoons he’s on the attack
Watch out for the man in black
He did some time
For stealing some high grade lettuces
Now he’s out
Chasing his bed-haired nemesis
Brady better watch out for the cutlery thief
He’s sneaking up behind you on Halifax street

Lock your kitchen drawers
Call Tommyball headquarters
Da Hein Hond’s back and he’s got nothing to lose
Busted out of prison
Man who’s on a mission
He’s creepin’ out to steal your souvenir spoons

The man in black yeah he is back
Hide your spoons he’s on the attack
Watch out for the man in black
Fear and dread going round and round
From Adelaide to Traralgon town
Your time is up and your going down
If you ever hear his dreaded sound:

Debbie cracked out the guitar and produced this. Again, we discuss it in more depth during episode 116.

The man in black, the man in black is back. The man in black, the man in black and a black hat.

He’s really rather blue, his friend don’t have a clue what he’s feeling.
The talk of Leda Moon and two Parisian spoons left him reeling.

It’s a Monday night, another lonely night at the Pod Mic. It’s a Monday night, the lonely man looks out at the street light,

He’d like to go out there but there's danger everywhere in the dark night.
He’d walk on up the road but KFC, so he’s been told, is open late night. (Get Thee behind me Colonel…)

The man in black, the man in black is back. The man in black, the man in black and a black hat.

He opens up the tin his supper has come in, he’ll eat a bite soon.
But he his so displeased, SPINACH soup is all he sees, and again, he's lost his spoon.

The man in black, the man in black is back. The man in black, the man in black and a black hat.

So he’ll sit and strum real low, singing all the words he knows, if he remembers.
Cowboy, school, asparagus, mini-corn and apricots and waffles! (Oooo … nailed it!)

The man in black, the man in black is back. (He’s back, Brady, he’s back!)
The man in black, the man in black and a black hat. (A little black hat)
The man in black, the man in black is back. (New Year’s is Bucket Day.)
The man in black, the man in black and a black hat.

This came from Amelia in South Africa.

A lyrics-only submission from Sarina.

The man in black, the man in black is back

The man in black, he’s got to stay on track

It’s late at night, the moon is bright

Alone again at the podcast mike

The man in black is back

Chorus:

Does anybody hear him?

Does anybody know?

What it costs to be him

In the green light’s glow

The man in white, the man in white’s uptight

The man in white, he can’t get his sound levels right

He’s got his rack of spoons, his list of moons

A terabyte full of Alan Stewart tunes

The man in white, the man in white’s uptight.

Repeat chorus

The man in blue, the man in blue is through

The man in blue, a Mona Lisa sock and a blue shoe

He’s got a sofa designed for you

Choose your fabric, match your curtains, too

The man in blue is through

New chorus:

Does anybody hear them?

Does anybody know?

What it costs to be them

In the green light’s glow

Lyrics only from Jon

The Man in Black, The Man in Black is back
The Man in Black, The Man in Black and a black cap
It's Monday night, another hard night at the pod-mic
It's Monday night, a lonely man and a streetlight
the man in black...

it's Tuesday night, a man in black with no foresight
it's Wednesday night, a man in black with a Coors Light
it's Thursday night, the man in black doesn't feel quite right
it's Friday night, a man in black has a little more white

(chorus)
A weekday night, a lonesome sight with a pod-mic
A weekday night, another hard day in the spotlight
A weekday night, forever longing for the twilight
A weekend night, The Man in Black lost the fight
(refrain*2)he didn't lose the fight

The Man in Black, The Man in Black survives
The Man in Black, The Man in Black may yet thrive
It's a Monday night, a first day in a long ride
It's a Monday night, and a dark man starts to feel bright

A ‘featured artist’ rap verse submitted by Sarah.

This man in black could be anyone, the way he embodies all
Is he a Pastor or podcaster or a legend of tommyball?
or you might think he's a model who has walked plenty runways
the way he strides from the beach after surfing twenty one waves.
You never see him coming and you never see him going,
But you know it doesn't matter if it's raining or it's snowing.
So if you want to find him you've got to listen carefully.
(I think that you should know I've considered this prayerfully).
Leave after midnight or your moment shall elapse
You'll see one light shining on a street named Halifax
Take a look and see the hook, which is where he hangs his cap
And that is how you'll know that the man in black is back.

This from Bennett.

The man in black, the man in black is back

The man in black, the man in black and a black cap

Monday night, another hard night at the pod mic

It's Monday night, heart black as the night searching for a light

Looking down at a gun, still smoking he knew it was wrong

He hardens his heart, cleans off the blood, and runs

Hiding behind the name Hein, he speaks of spoons and not crime

On the run from the law, he knows it will end with him in the wrong

The man in black, the man in black on the fly

The man in black, the man in black and a dark lie

Dressed like a funeral, mournin’ the death of his joy

He sees the police out, knowing it won’t be long now

He readies his gun, the very same one

It started with one man, about to become a large sum

He knows he’ll go down, but not without a fight

The door comes down, and he unloads the shells

The death toll counts up, and the lead comes flyin’ in...

The man in black, the man in black is gone

The man in black, the man in black where he belongs...
